I will exhibit a number of paper-cuts in Waterford Regional Hospital as part of the exhibitions programme curated by Waterford Healing Arts Trust. The title of the exhibition, Waking Up in Waterford, refers to my hospital admission after a traumatic accident many years ago. Through a series of more figurative paper-cuts I have tried to revisited my stay as a patient in the hospital and the visual narrative that runs through the exhibition follows a journey towards recovery.
Waking Up In Waterford will run from Thursday 10th April, 2014 until the 6th June, 2014. For further information please contact the Waterford Healing Arts Trust on 051-842664 or e-mail WHAT@hse.ie
About fifteen years ago I designed a logo for an initiative group wanting to start a hospice in Leiden, the Netherlands. Now, celebrating its tenth birthday, Hospice Issoria moves to a bigger home at Burggravenlaan 11. I am delighted that as part of this I was asked to exhibit a number of papercuts. The exhibition can be viewed during the Open Day on Saturday 21st September from 11.00 – 16.00.
Over the last year I have experimented with the online font-building tool Fontstruct and the font design software Glyphs Mini, building a number of experimental typefaces, three of which I used on the posters for the Paperwork, Rock Paper Scissors and Full Circle exhibitions.
I have now published these and some other experimental fonts on the Dafont website under the name Font Studio Four. They are free for personal use and can be downloaded here.
Another of my typefaces Crazy Fredericka (named after the pangram Crazy Fredericka bought many very exquisite opal jewels.) was one of three winners in Fontstruct’s Stencilfont Competition.
